Daniel So, head of our franchise law department, has written a textbook on franchise law in Canada, which is to be published this December by Lexis-Nexis Butterworths, Canada’s leading legal publisher.

The textbook, titled “Canadian Franchise Law Handbook” is written in plain language, and explains the legal requirements for franchising in Canada and serves to help franchisees navigate the process of entering into a franchise relationship with a franchisor.  Along with chapters devoted exclusively to the three Canadian franchise legislation jurisdictions, as well as the US and other jurisdictions, the text includes a clause-by-clause annotation of a sample Franchise Agreement and Disclosure Document to decode standard “legalese” and contract technicalities.

Other features of the text include flowcharts, sample documents and the full text of the Alberta Franchises Act, Ontario Arthur Wishart (Franchise Disclosure) Act, Prince Edward Island Franchises Act, and many practical tips.
